I slowly and carefully fit the scroll to the end of the maple neck blank. Since the 3 fitting surfaces inside the scroll are flat I only need to adjust the angles on the blank. I left plenty of extra space all around. I don't cut the neck blank to final dimensions until the scroll is perfectly fit. I then saw open the new pegbox, mill the blank to near finished size and use plenty of clamps to hide glue it on.

The neck is glued back into the neck pocket. I cleaned out all the old glue and made sure the pocket was flat & true to insure a good fit with the new neck. The fingerboard is then glued on. It so much easier to put one on a new neck, where I can use a joiner to fit the two surfaces, instead of the usual hand fit.

The photo on the left shows the rough neck and some of the hand tools I use to shape it. I use a round over bit on my router to hog to the rough shape. The rest is done by hand, the same as when I make my Vertical Bass necks. There are more pictures of the neck being shaped on the next page.
